According to a study, eating an avocado every day can help redistribute a woman’s belly fat toward a healthier profile. One meal was provided every day for 12 weeks to 105 obese and overweight individuals taking part in a randomized controlled trial.
Women consuming avocado incorporated into their daily meals experienced a decrease in visceral abdominal fat.1✅ JOURNAL REFERENCE

The study’s goal was not to determine weight loss, the researchers wanted to understand what avocado consumption does to the way body fat is stored. The fat’s location in the body plays a crucial part in health.
There are 2 kinds of fat in the abdomen, fat that has accumulated right beneath the skin, known as subcutaneous fat, and the fat that has accumulated deeper in the abdomen surrounding the internal organs called visceral fat, which is harder to target. People having a higher proportion of visceral fat have a higher risk of diabetes. The researchers wanted to determine if the subcutaneous to visceral fat ratio changed when consuming avocados.
The individuals were divided into 2 groups, 1 group was given meals incorporating an avocado, and the other group was given a meal that contained similar calories and almost identical ingredients but without avocado.
At the start and end of the study duration of 12 weeks, glucose tolerance and abdominal fat were measured. Glucose tolerance is a measure of metabolism and a diabetes marker.
A reduction in visceral abdominal fat was experienced by females consuming an avocado every day incorporated into their meal, as well as a reduction in the visceral fat to subcutaneous fat ratio, which indicates that the fat has been redistributed away from the organs. The distribution of fat in males however didn’t change, and glucose tolerance did not improve in females or males.
Although consuming avocados every day didn’t change glucose tolerance, a diet including an avocado every day affects the way body fat is stored beneficially for health.
