HIIT Is the Best Kind of Exercise to Help Fight the Aging Process

People have been pursuing proven anti-aging solutions for hundreds of years, and a study has reported that one of the primary concerns of 77% of individuals is to age gracefully.

The best way to maintain a young body is ultimately to live a well-rounded healthy lifestyle. Although adhering to the 3 health principles of eating clean, sleeping well, and exercising regularly might not keep us 25 years old forever, it can help to decrease the pace of the aging process.

Research informs us that consuming a Mediterranean-style diet that includes an abundance of vegetables, fruit, fish, and nuts helps to promote optimal aging and stronger physical and brain health well into later years. On the flip side, another study shows that obesity accelerates the aging process.1✅ JOURNAL REFERENCE

There aren’t any shortcuts with regards to slowing the aging process and effort is required. It’s fortunately never too late to start, particularly when it comes to exercise. Lots of research has found that even individuals older than 50 can slow the aging process by engaging in some exercise.

High-intensity interval training, or HIIT, has become considerably popular nowadays. HIIT involves repeated cyclic short bursts of intense activity accompanied by shorter periods of rest.

A study claims HIIT can reverse muscular and cellular aging processes in older people. The mitochondria of the cells gradually lose their ability to generate energy as we grow older. This study however suggests that HIIT helps aging cells in creating more proteins, which stops the aging process at the cellular level.2✅ JOURNAL REFERENCE

A group of either younger individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 years or older individuals between the ages of 65 and 80 years were instructed to participate in 1 of 3 exercise programs: a normal strength training exercise program, an HIIT exercise program, or a combination of both exercise programs. Only individuals allocated to the HIIT or the combination exercise groups exhibited elevated skeletal muscle mitochondrial function. Older individuals also benefited that much more from HIIT compared to the younger group. Although young individuals allocated to the HIIT group had a 49% increase in mitochondrial capacity, the group of older individuals experienced a 69% increase.

According to the researchers, there isn’t any substitute for exercise programs with regards to slowing down the aging process. The results seen in the study can’t be produced by any drugs. The researchers recommend regular participation in some kind of exercise, and that supervised HIIT exercise is most likely best for aging individuals, because it provides the most benefits metabolically as well as at the molecular level.
